A suspected speeding driver is alleged to have led police on a dramatic 90mph chase through Manchester for more than half an hour before eventually being caught.

Greater Manchester Police traffic cops were alerted to a Mazda 3 in the south of the city. With the help of the police helicopter, they began a chase which lasted 32 minutes, during which the Mazda travelled at 90mph while going through red lights, the force said on social media.

Officers twice used a stinger on the car, in a bid to deflate its tyres, before it was eventually 'boxed in' and stopped. The driver was detained and taken to police custody.

The force revealed details of the dramatic incident on X, formerly known as Twitter.
