Woman charged with unlawful act manslaughter after baby girl dies at nursery

A woman has been charged with unlawful act manslaughter following the death of a baby girl at a nursery in Stockport. Genevieve Meehan died after falling ill at the Tiny Toes Children's Day Nursery in Cheadle on Monday, May 9 last year.

The nine-month-old suffered a 'medical episode'. Kate Roughley has now been charged in connection with her death. The 36-year-old, of Heaton Norris, has been charged with unlawful act manslaughter. She was bailed and will next appear at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on September 19. In a statement posted on social media, GMP said: "#CHARGED | Kate Roughley (04/03/1987) of Heaton Norris has been charged with unlawful act manslaughter. "She appeared at Tameside Magistrates on Tuesday 15 August 2023 and was bailed ahead of an appearance at Minshull Street Crown Court on Tuesday 19 September 2023. "These charges relate to an incident which took place at Tiny Toes nursery on Mellor Road in Cheadle on Monday 9 May 2022." In a tribute following her death, Genevieve's family said they were 'devastated' after the loss of a 'wonderful, unique and special person'. "She had the most beautiful smile and enchanting emerald eyes", they added. "To know that we will not get to hear her mischievous laugh again, or hold her hand, is almost too much to bear."
