Why thousands of DWP benefit payments are being cancelled

Thousands of benefits claimants who have refused to switch to Universal Credit have had their payments stopped due to strict bank account rules.

People who claim certain benefits which are coming to an end must switch to Universal Credit and will have been sent a Migration Notice explaining how to do so.

Child Tax Credit, Working Tax Credit, Housing Benefit, Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) and Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) are all being replaced by Universal Credit.

But there are four main reasons that people aren't going ahead with the claim, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has said.
