Why hay fever symptoms are so bad explained by doctor in 'severe' pollen warning

With winter behind us, summer is finally on the horizon, but it also is a dreaded time for hay fever sufferers.Seasonal allergies ramp up in the sunny season as trees and plants release more pollen into the air.

If you experience the ailment, you may already be experiencing flare-ups, despite the high period being a couple of months away.Experts say that pollen levels are currently higher than usual, meaning sufferers are already experiencing some of the ailment's unpleasant symptoms.

These include a runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, coughing, sore throat and Scotland is even on alert for a "pollen bomb" with this weekend's sunny weather forecast.There are many factors that play a role in the pollen count.

While the main trigger is weather, Dr Nisa Aslam, GP from Typharm’s Skin Life Sciences Foundation, has explained other reasons for the spike in allergic reactions and how to improve symptoms.Speaking to PA, she said: “Many people are suffering from hay fever just now because the pollen count is high, thanks in part to climate change,” says Dr Nisa “Plus the pollen season is getting longer.”The immune function plays an important role in an allergic reactions, she added: “People who suffer from hay fever often have a family history of not just hay fever, but also skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis, which can often be borne out of problems with the immune system.”The weather can also be a contributing factor in how badly you’re affected.“Some hay fever sufferers may be experiencing a sudden spike in their symptoms a bit earlier than usual, this may be due to the recent prolonged wet and windy weather,” says Claire Nevinson, superintendent pharmacist at Boots.“On a daily basis, rainfall tends to decrease pollen,
