If you have Instagram, then you may have received a notification from some of the biggest brands you follow asking you to join their broadcast channel.
The messages have been coming in thick and fast seemingly overnight and leaving some users scratching their heads or throwing their phones away in frustration.

Despite their sudden appearance on the app, broadcast channels have been a feature since June this year, just not in the UK.
The tool, which is only available on mobile version of Instagram, was released first in February this year and has been steadily rolled out globally with the UK getting the channels treatment on Tuesday (September 19).
