Violence on streets of Manchester as fiery night of chaos breaks out across the UK

Violent disorder broke out on the streets of Manchester last night amid a number of protests across the UK. Amid a night of chaos and unrest across the country on Wednesday evening (July 31), a protest took place outside the Holiday Inn hotel in Newton Heath.

Protests were also carried out in London, Hartlepool and Aldershot. Demonstrators first turned out in large numbers outside the hotel on Oldham Road at around 6pm.

A group of around 40 people, including children and young men wearing balaclavas, gathered outside the premises in what appeared to be a stand against asylum seekers currently being housed in the hotel. Riot police were pelted with bottles and a man was dragged off a bus and attacked. The chaotic scenes spilled onto the main road with beer bottles pelted at cars.
