UK holidaymakers have been issued a warning about a potentially lethal disease after insects were discovered at two popular Spanish destinations.
Tiger mosquitoes have been detected on the islands of Mallorca and Minorca, prompting authorities to deploy helicopters to disperse pesticides in an attempt to eradicate them.
Originally from Asia, these mosquitoes are now proliferating in Spain and can transmit diseases such as dengue fever. They feed throughout the day and can infect humans with diseases when they bite.
These aggressive mosquitoes can be easily distinguished from other species by their distinctive stripes. They are carriers of yellow fever and dengue, as well as Zika, which can lead to birth defects.
