Fuel prices remained "stubbornly static" in July despite wholesale costs suggesting a drop was due, new analysis has revealed.

The RAC reported that the average price of a litre of petrol and diesel at UK forecourts last month was unchanged at 145p and 150p respectively.

The motoring organisation highlighted that wholesale per litre prices indicate motorists should be paying around 140p for petrol and 142p for diesel.

According to RAC data, retailers' margins the difference between their purchase price and the pump price stood at 13p per litre for petrol and 15p per litre for diesel, significantly above the long-term average of 8p per litre, reports Wales Online.
