It’s a national pastime to complain about the weather and that’s certainly true of Mancunians. But it seems we were justified last month.
It was the wettest July on record here in Greater Manchester, according to The Met Office. The region experienced 217.9mm of rainfall - 242 per cent more than average.

Met Office rainfall records - which date back to 1836 - show 1920 as the next wettest July in our region, when 188.2mm of rain fell.
That’s followed by 174.3mm in 1939, 171mm in 2007 and 170mm in 1888. Lancashire and Merseyside also saw their wettest July. The UK had an average of 140.1mm rain last month, the sixth highest total for July since records began, according to provisional data.
