Matheus Nunes has signed a five-year contract at Manchester City after the club agreed a £53m deal with Wolves. City were initially paying less but renegotiated with the Premier League side in order to secure more favourable payment terms.

The breakthrough in negotiations came after drastic action from the player going on strike had brought concerns that the move may not go through.

The Blues have now confirmed Nunes as their fourth signing of the summer though, taking their spending over the £200m mark following the arrivals of Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol and Jeremy Doku.

Nunes, 25, will take the No.27 shirt that he wore at Wolves and was most recently worn at City by Joao Cancelo. Txiki Begiristain, City's sporting director, spoke glowingly of a player that Pep Guardiola hailed as one of the best in the world when the Blues played Sporting in 2021.
