Elite officers from the Major Investigation Team headed to the Asda in Ardrossan, Ayrshire, as part of the probe into the murder of Alan Lawson.Alan, 36, was brutally attacked at a property in the nearby town of Largs earlier this month, before being dumped back at his home in New England Road, in the seaside town of Saltcoats.A murder hunt was launched after he passed away in hospital.

And this afternoon the investigation saw officers carrying out a surveillance operation on a property believed to be linked to the incident.

The activity centred on a block of flats next to the supermarket. The property sits just off the main road through the town, on the street which leads to the ferry terminal linking the mainland to the Isle of Arran. It is also just yards away from the main street in the town - Glasgow Street - where sources claimed a potential suspect was spotted walking after a week on the run.

Plain clothed officers staked out the property from the comfort of an unmarked vehicle in the Asda car park. After several hours watching the property, uniformed and plain clothed officers swooped in.
