The final preparations are underway at historic Wythenshawe Park ready for the arrival of some 25,000 music fans to roar the return of homecoming star Noel Gallagher this weekend.

It's the first time this huge Greater Manchester parkland has ever hosted a live gig on this scale - and rather fittingly it will be from a rock star who grew up just down the road in Burnage.

But this gig could also hold a more significant place in the history books. For while Noel himself will be regaling the crowds with solo hits and Oasis classics like The Masterplan on Saturday night, behind the scenes organisers are also seeing their very own masterplan come to life.

If the gig is deemed a success after this weekend, the hope, and ambition, is for gigs to return to the historic parkland next year too.
