A council was forced to spend thousands of pounds on additional security measures for the inquest into the death of tragic mum-of-two Nicola Bulley, it's been revealed.
The disappearance of 45-year-old Ms Bulley, known as Nikki, sparked widespread public attention resulting in police making several arrests and warning people not to visit the small Lancashire village of St Michael's On Wyre, where she had last been seen on January 27 this year.
Coroner Dr James Adeley ruled her death was an accident and said it was likely she entered the water of the River Wyre at 9.22am on January 27 when her FitBit, which was recovered with her body, recorded a significant spike in her heart rate.
But he said he was unable to determine exactly why she entered the water. Dr Adeley said there was no sign of natural causes - and the only remaining conclusion was accidental death, a conclusion he recorded.
