Phil Foden hopes this season will present him with the chance to establish himself in the No.10 role after being told by Pep Guardiola to remain patient and work hard for his opportunity.
Foden was the standout performer as Manchester City beat Newcastle United 1-0 at the Etihad on Saturday evening. The 23-year-old setup Julian Alvarez for the only goal of the game, with the Argentinian firing home a wonderful finish on 31 minutes.
It was one of seven chances created by Foden in a masterful display. The Blues academy graduate has grown frustrated at a lack of minutes recently but took his chance in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne.
Foden started the game in his more natural attacking midfield role and got fans on their feet with every move. The England international was a constant danger and should have created more goals, had Erling Haaland found his shooting boots.
