Two teenagers have been charged in connection with the huge fire that ripped through the Station Hotel last night. Police have confirmed that the youths, aged 13 and 17, were both arrested and charged following the incident.
Emergency services remain at the scene this morning, with fire crews still tackling the blaze. The inferno first took hold of the iconic hotel around 5.37pm on the roof before rapidly spreading throughout the building.
The blaze led to travel chaos on the rails as the entire Ayr to Glasgow service ground to a halt. At it's height Scottish Fire and Rescue sent 15 appliances to the scene.
Today cops have locked down streets surrounding the Station Hotel and Ayr Station, including: Kyle Street at High Street, Smith Street at Mill Street; a pedestrian closure of Smith Street from the Station Hotel to Ayr Central, Castlehill Road at the Market Inn, Parkhouse Street, and Burns Statue Square at Killoch Place.Diversion routes are in place but road closures are likely to impact on journey time.A Police Scotland have confirmed that both youths will be reported to the relevant authorities and further enquiries are ongoing.
