Stop-and-search powers stepped up after car plunges into water following 'altercation'

Stop-and-search powers have been stepped up in two areas of Bury after a car plunged into water following an 'altercation'. Two men were arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill after an incident that culminated near the Pilsworth Fishery yesterday afternoon (Thursday).

There was a huge emergency services presence beside the water after a vehicle had careered off Aviation Road down a grass verge.

Police said an 'altercation' had broken out between passengers in two vehicles before the car plunged into the water. Two men were taken into custody to be questioned on suspicion of criminal damage, public order and making threats to kill. READ MORE: Join the FREE Manchester Evening News WhatsApp community At around 11pm last night, officers announced Section 60 powers for the area around Aviation Road, which is on the border of Bury and Heywood, for 24 hours.

This gives police the power to stop-and-search anyone within the area. A Section 60 power has also been enforced for an area near Woodhill Road and Woodhill Road Park following an 'incident' yesterday afternoon.
