A team effort was the theme of the night for Stirling boss Alan Maybury as he hailed his side’s display in securing an excellent bonus point at Hamilton. The Binos had suffered badly on their trips to New Douglas Park in League One last season and Tuesday’s Premier Sports Cup match looked a similarly daunting task for a youthful Stirling outfit. But they produced a disciplined showing to secure a goalless draw with their Championship opponents and then claimed the extra point in Group H with a 4-2 penalty shootout win.It sets up the Binos well for an interesting clash against League Two rivals Stranraer at Forthbank next Tuesday in their next group stage contest. However, despite experienced faces still injured and Maybury insisting his Albion squad remains “four or five” short, the Stirling boss is confident that progress is being made with every outing. After the impressive midweek showing, Maybury said: “Obviously we’re short on numbers at the moment, but we asked the players to improve on what they did at Queens and then against Raith and build on the positives from those games.“It’s part of the reason why I went with the same team, asking the same boys to go again because I felt continuity is important at this stage.“Hamilton were better in the early stages but we grew into the game, we need to believe in ourselves a little more; we actually had the better chances on the break, with Ally Roy having a couple of real opportunities.“We had to weather long spells of pressure second half, but when we could secure it, we looked a threat on the break and had some more than half-chances in the game, while Gats [Derek Gaston] had a couple of comfortable saves up the other end.
