Hamilton Accies Women have signed Celtic duo Erin Halliday and Olivia McStay to boost their squad ahead of the SWPL2 kicking off next weekend.Defender Olivia, who is the second cousin of Celtic men’s legend Paul McStay, and goalkeeper Erin have joined the club on loan.

The pair, who are both 16, are expected by boss Robert Watson to make a ‘big impact’ for Accies. He said: “Although not experienced in full adult football, they have good experience in youth international football and it is great to give them the opportunity to really show what they can do.

Both of them are really going to make a big impact on the division this season. “Olivia is Paul McStay’s second cousin and her dad is Jock McStay, the former Raith Rovers and Motherwell defender.

She is a defender as well and has played in youth international squads, as has Erin, so we are excited to get them in.” Accies are preparing for their SWPL2 opener at home to Livingston on August 11 and enjoyed a trip to Sunderland last weekend, defeating Sunderland’s U20s 5-1 thanks to a Lauren Kerr effort and a four-goal show from Josi Giard.Watson said: “It was a good trip down and they were quite a good side as well.
