Station Hotel gridlock to last into New Year as traffic order details emerge

A major Ayr road will remain closed into the New Year amidst ongoing safety works at the Station Hotel. Station Bridge Road (A70) will remain shutdown over the festive period after being slammed with a further traffic order that runs from November 9 and is expected to last until January 10 - spelling more misery for traders in the area.

A further blow will also be dealt to taxi drivers, with Ayr's main taxi rank to be suspended as part of no waiting restrictions that are detailed in the latest traffic ban.

Smith Street is also being hit with a no waiting order, with Station Road also feeling the brunt of traffic restrictions. Station Bridge Road - a key route into the town has not been open since an inferno ripped through the Victorian building sparking chaos on the rails and roads.The southern section gable end was left destroyed during the blaze after shock drone footage revealed that entire floors had collapse and that the section was 'hanging by a thread'.Council chiefs were forced to draft in a specialist contractor to tackle the gable end - which towers over Station Bridge - amidst fears it could collapse.Painstaking safety works kicked off on the high-risk structure on Monday, October 23 and were expected to last an estimated 8-9 weeks.
