March 1 marks one of the most colourful days in the Welsh calendar, as people come together to celebrate St David's Day. If you spot someone with a leek or daffodil pinned to their lapel today, this traditional celebration is the reason behind it.The annual event marks the passing of the patron saint of Wales, Saint David.
He was a well-known figure in the 6th century, whose cultural presence can still be felt in the country to this day. As well as founding numerous religious communities and spaces, he was also a highly regarded preacher.
He even founded St David's Cathedral. Wales is now home to around three million people and it's no surprise that the country is bursting with talent.
And what better day than St David's Day to celebrate some Welsh icons we love? There is a plethora of Welsh actors, singers, and athletes that have built up a presence in mainstream media.
