Ferguson, 82, was particularly big on developing youth from within the club, but he worked hard to ensure those talents stayed grounded and didn't grow complacent.
One could argue that facet of management was easier in Ferguson's heyday before football's finances spiralled. However, his system of rewarding prospects when they deserved it - no matter how frequent that may have been - rarely let him down. "But I think the important thing is, if you're giving them an opportunity young enough, they'll have a great career. "The perfect example is Ryan Giggs.
When Ryan signed his first contract at 17, he was on [a] little, not a great deal. The next year, I gave him I think 10 contracts.
