Sinead O'Connor funeral: fans gather for last goodbye as Irish singer is laid to rest

Swarms of fans lined an Irish coastal road to bid farewell to Sinéad O'Connor ahead of her funeral this afternoon.The acclaimed singer's family asked people who wish to say a “last goodbye” to stand along Bray seafront in Co Wicklow as the cortege passes by before a private burial.The procession was due to begin at 10.30am at the Harbour Bar end of the Strand Road, where it's to continue past her former home, Montebello, where she lived for 15 years.

Hoards of fans were packed on the street as Sinéad's hits blasted out. Some were emotional as her epic vocals floated above the street, while others took the opportunity to dance and celebrate the star's legacy.

More than 300 have arrived so far to Bray's seafront.Train services into Bray are "significantly busier than normal" ahead of the funeral cortege in the town.

In a statement to the PA news agency, a spokesman for Irish Rail said: "Darts arriving to Bray are significantly busier than normal for mid-morning services, with people travelling to pay their respects to Sinéad O'Connor. "Our station manager advises me the last three trains arriving in particular have been quite busy, and that’s expected to continue over the next hour." By 11.30am on Tuesday (8 August), Irish Mirror reports crowds were seen standing on the walls outside her Irish home as they packed the Bray seafront ahead of her funeral procession.
