The “Saw” franchise is the brainchild of writer Leigh Whannell (who co-starred in the original film) and director James Wan crafting a new kind of slasher with John Kramer, aka Jigsaw, that debuted back in 2004.

A deranged dying villain that attempts to teach his victims to appreciate their lives by forcing them to do unspeakable things to survive various death traps and puzzles.

While the first two films are arguably enjoyable, the franchise started grinding out yearly releases to capitalize on the Halloween season with diminishing returns and attempted soft reboots most recently with “Spiral” which featured Chris Rock and Samuel L.
