SATs tests have begun, see if you can answer these questions for six year olds
manchestereveningnews.co.ukAfter weeks of practice test papers, pupils have finally started their SATs tests this week. The middle of May is when primary school children in Years 2 and 6 are assessed on maths and English.
In English, the tests focus on spelling, punctuation and grammar, and in maths, youngsters are tested on arithmetic and reasoning. But the government insists the 'tests are in pupils' own interests', helping both parents and teachers identify where additional support is needed to 'make sure all children leave primary school having mastered the basics of literacy and numeracy'.
Despite no longer being mandatory for Key Stage 1 (Year 2), they're still going ahead in many schools, although teachers do try to keep the testing procedure informal.
