The Duchess of York has claimed the late Queen Elizabeth's dogs - which were bestowed upon her following Her Majesty's passing last year - can see the former monarch in a ghostly form.

Speaking to People magazine, Sarah Ferguson - more popularly known as 'Fergie' - claimed that The Queen's two surviving corgis, Sandy and Muick (pronounced "Mick") often react as though someone is there, that cannot be seen. "They are national icons, so every time they run chasing a squirrel, I panic," the Duchess, 63, shared. "But they're total joys, and I always think that when they bark at nothing, and there's no squirrels in sight, I believe it's because the Queen is passing by." Fergie - who recently received an "olive branch" from the Queen Consort as she picks up royal duties - added: "They're with me a lot, and they think I'm very funny." The dogs were gifted to the Queen by Sarah, her ex-husband Prince Andrew and their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Fergie then re-homed them after the monarch's sad death last year at age 96, following a historic 70-year reign. Gushing over the incredible life of her former mother-in-law, Fergie describes the Queen as her "total idol", claiming she "put you at ease straight away" but could be equally "terrifying". "I used to sit there for hours thinking, 'Oh my gosh, this is somebody's lifetime to have an audience with the Queen, and I'm sitting having a cup of tea,'" she recalled.

Fergie - who has just released her second novel, a new historical fiction book titled A Most Intriguing Lady - also believes the late Elizabeth II had "the most incredible faith of any single person", believing she "knew how to make people feel good".
