Rutherglen mining history to be celebrated with poignant memorial lamp

In a special commemorative event, the Rutherglen community will celebrate the unveiling of a poignant mining memorial that digs deep to pay homage to the town’s rich mining history.The Rutherglen Heritage Society will unveil a flame safety memorial lamp at Rutherglen Town Hall this Friday to mark the town’s mining history between the 1500s and 1931.The memorial came about because of Bob McDonald and Colin Findlay who started researching coal mining in Rutherglen and Cambuslang.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

I’ll get you one!”That day has finally arrived, following delays due to the Covid pandemic, but sadly David Jackson, who died in 2020, did not live to see the fruition of what he had ignited.The culmination of this renewed effort was the creation of a remarkable steel representation of a miner's flame safety lamp by Jason Paterson Fabrication & Design.
