Rutherglen Community Council have carried out a volunteer litter-pick event to tidy up the Royal Burgh as part of the Great British Spring Clean.A team of 18 took to the streets of Bankhead, Spittal and Millcroft to spruce up the local area.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

The litter pick collected over 30 bags of discarded plastic, glass and other debris from areas around the Spittal Burn and Bankhead Pond in particular.

We were supported with litter pick sticks and pink bags by South Lanarkshire Council’s Lands Services.“We decided to organise the event as part of the national Great British Spring Clean organised by Keep Britain Tidy.“Everyone found it very satisfying to see the areas concerned looking much cleaner and tidier.“I hope the community council will be able to organise similar events in the future.” * Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
