Roast potatoes are a staple in two popular British meals - Christmas dinner and a Sunday roast. There are three Sundays ahead of the big day on Monday, December 25, which means you have the chance to perfect your roasties before the family has a chance to chime in.A roast potato needs to follow a specific formula - crisp on the outside, fluffy and soft on the inside.

You can overcook them, which leaves the potatoes burnt, but not cooking them enough can give off a soggy, mushy taste. Thanks to professional chef Harry Heal, we now have a recipe for the perfect rosemary and garlic roast potatoes that are golden, crispy and full of flavour.

The best thing is, you'll only need five ingredients to make these roasties, reports the Express. In a video shared online, the comfort food expert said: "As we head towards Thanksgiving [and] Christmas, and everything in between, here’s how to make perfect roast potatoes."Read on below to follow along with this roast potato recipe.Begin by peeling and slicing your potatoes into decent chunks, and preheating the oven to 200C.Place the potatoes into a pot of cold water, salt it, then bring it to a boil over medium heat.

Harry notes that it is important to add the potatoes to cold water, as they will react immediately to heat, which would cause them to cook unevenly if the pot is already boiling.Leave this to simmer for around five minutes, or until you can stick a fork in and have it slide back out.
