But when that character is played by a versatile actor with the range of multi-Oscar-nominated Willem Dafoe, there’s no telling what will emerge. That’s the case with “Inside,” which premieres Feb. 20 in the Panorama section of the Berlin Film Festival. Focus Features is releasing the film theatrically in the U.S. on March 17. Dafoe stars as an art thief who enters a collector’s high-tech penthouse hunting for valuable works of art, only to be trapped inside when the security system locks the apartment down. When help fails to arrive, the thief — surrounded by so many of the art works he covets and admires — must use all of his cunning and invention to survive, even as supplies dwindle and his body is pushed toward ever-more-demanding extremes.

Naman Ramachandran For Indian filmmaker Sreemoyee Singh, world premiering her Iran documentary “And, Towards Happy Alleys” at the Berlin Film Festival’s Panorama strand is the culmination of a journey that began in 2015. Singh completed a masters degree in film studies at Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India and went on to pursue a PhD on The Exiled Filmmaker in Post Revolution Iranian Cinema, with the objective of understanding the source of “impossible hope” in Iranian films. The filmmaker was also introduced to the poetry of Iran’s Forogh Farrokhzad during the course and “connected deeply” to her verses. A desire to read Farrokhzad’s verses in the original Persian led Singh to learn Farsi.

Lil Peep’s mother, Liza Womack, has reached a settlement in the multi-million dollar wrongful death lawsuit that stemmed from her son’s fatal drug overdose in 2017.Womack filed the lawsuit (regarding legal responsibility for Lil Peep’s death) against the rapper’s management and label services company, First Access Entertainment. Per Pitchfork, a notice filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Friday (February 17) outlined that Womack had settled the wrongful death lawsuit with the company, though terms of the settlement remain undisclosed.“Liza has been indefatigable in her pursuit of justice for her son,” Womack’s lawyer Paul Matiasic said in a statement to Pitchfork.
