Cumbernauld Colts crowned Rangers loanee Harley Ewan their player of the year on Saturday night after the defender helped the club enjoy a five-star finish to the Lowland League season.Eighteen-year-old Ewan played his part in a 5-0 win over rock bottom Dalbeattie Star to help Colts earn a 14th place finish in the 19-team division.

An own goal plus strikes from Cole McIntyre, Ewan MacPherson, Luke McCarvel and Danny Hatfield sent the Broadwood side into their player of the year awards on Saturday night in style.At the ceremony, Ewan won players’ player and player of the year, while McIntyre took home the young player of the year prize, MacPherson won the top goalscorer award and midfielder Craig Holmes claimed the chairman’s award.Delighted Colts boss David Proctor said: “It was a strong way to end the league season.

It is always nice to finish on a high so you go into the summer with a positive feeling and it helps us look forward to trying to build on what we’ve achieved this season.“The awards are good recognition for the players, particularly the younger ones like Cole McIntyre who came up from East Kilbride Thistle.

He is a bit of a rookie at this level but the way he has stepped up and taken it all in his stride is great. I’m delighted for him.“Harley Ewan deservedly won our player of the year award.
