Radio 2 listeners give verdict on Paddy McGuinness' debut - after controversial shake-up

Paddy McGuinness confessed to feeling a touch of the jitters as he kicked off his first live show on BBC Radio 2 this morning.The beloved Top Gear host is now at the helm of the Sunday slot from 11am-1pm, previously occupied by Michael Ball.The shake-up follows the news that Michael Ball has stepped into the shoes of the late Steve Wright for the Sunday morning segment.Today marked the launch of Love Songs with Michael Ball from 9-11am, taking over the time slot once filled by the dearly missed Steve Wright, who tragically passed away aged 69 in February.

As Paddy took to the airwaves, he shared with listeners that he was battling nerves and had fuelled up on "six coffees" before the show.

As the show kicked off, listeners were quick to take to X to share their thoughts on Paddy's debut. One wrote: "Never been one for radio 2 but can't help it now @PaddyMcGuinness has a show on there!!

So I've finally given in whilst hanging out the holiday clothes washing." Another listener wrote: "@PaddyMcGuinness @BBCRadio2 Cracking it!
