Over the past few days, certain royal titles have been re-arranged by King Charles. It was confirmed today that his younger brother, Prince Edward, has been handed the title of Duke of Edinburgh, which his late father Prince Philip used to hold.Given to him today on his 59th birthday, the change means that Edward's wife Sophie is now the Duchess of Edinburgh and their 15 year old son James, Viscount Severn, is the new Earl of Wessex.
However, the title of Duke of Edinburgh will only last for Edward's lifetime and isn't hereditary - meaning that someday it could be given to one of Kate and William's sons. The Mirror reports that Prince Louis is the most likely candidate.
Prince George is set to be a future King, while Princess Charlotte is thought to become Princess Royal one day. This means their youngest Louis could be made Duke of Edinburgh or given another title of Charles' choosing - or that of his father William, if he is King at that point.
Louis is fourth in line to the throne behind his father and siblings and his official current title is His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Wales. But he only became a prince when he was born thanks to his great-grandmother, the late Queen, as she overwrote a rule put in place by King George V.
