Claims Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's quasi-royal tour to Colombia cost a whopping £1.5million have been denied by officials in the country, who also revealed who paid for it.The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited destinations including Bogota, Cali, and Cartagena during their four-day trip which was branded a "success" by the Colombian Ministry of Equality and Equity.El Pais reports that the Ministry confirmed the Sussexes covered their own travel expenses.
A spokesperson from the Ministry said: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex financed their trip and that of their team with their own resources." While Harry and Meghan's personal engagements in Colombia were apparently "co-financed", it's understood that international agencies chipped in to help with the costs.
The rumours about the visit costing £1.5m were also denied by officials, according to El Pais, although they did not reveal the exact amount.
They also denied that 3,000 security men were hired for the visit.The Ministry highlighted the visit as an opportunity for Colombians to connect with the Archewell Foundation, the charitable organization founded by Harry and Meghan.
