Plans to abolish so-called ‘no fault’ evictions have been set out in Parliament today (May 17) in a major shake up to the rental sector.

The Renters’ (Reform) Bill will offer more protections to tenants and enable them to challenge poor landlords without losing their home.

The Bill includes measures allowing renters to request a pet in their home which landlords cannot unreasonably refuse, while it will bring an end to blanket bans on renting to benefit claimants or families with children, according to the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC).

For the first time is will apply “decent home” quality standards to the private rented sector. But it will also allow notice periods to be reduced for renters who have been “irresponsible”, according to the Government.
