Philippe Clement has hit out at league chiefs for dragging his Rangers side up for an early Sunday start just 62 hours after starring in Europe. The Ibrox gaffer was thrilled with the character of his side as continued his perfect domestic start with a hard-fought 2-0 victory at Livingston.

Clement’s men had two goals ruled out in West Lothian but Cyriel Dessers and a James Tavernier penalty – after missing from the spot in the first half – did the job to go into the international break undefeated in the manager’s first seven matches in charge. But the Belgian admitted he was less chuffed with the scheduling – and he insisted his shattered side should have been given longer to recover from flying the flag in Europe in the win against Sparta Prague last Thursday.

Clement said: “Yes, I think it’s better for Scottish football also to do it that way.“They do it in Belgium and other leagues, taking care of that.

Maybe people who never played think 'what is the difference with six or eight hours more?' But it’s a big difference in the recovery of a body, these hours of sleep and hours of recovery.
