The latest statistics from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show that by the end of January 2023, there were 3.25million people across Great Britain claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

The regional breakdown includes over 319,000 claimants living in Scotland, 2.7million in England and 232,000 in Wales. The benefit is gradually being replaced in Scotland by Adult Disability Payment (ADP), which rolled out nationwide to new claimants at the end of August last year.

From April 10, a successful claim for PIP or ADP is worth between £26.90 and £172.75 each week in additional financial support and as the benefit is paid every four weeks, this amounts to between £107.60 and £691.00 every payment period.

Around 547 health conditions are being supported by PIP or ADP, but some people may not be aware that there are two benefits which could overlap and cause reduction in payments. Guidance on GOV.UK explains that the: The overlapping benefit is always paid in full and PIP or ADP is reduced by the amount of the overlapping benefit. Those receiving Armed Forces Independence Payment will not be entitled to claim PIP or ADP.
