One in three drivers admit to middle lane hogging on motorways

Nearly one in three drivers say they sometimes use the middle lane too much on motorways, a survey shows. About 32% of people asked by National Highways said they stay in the middle lane at least "occasionally".

This includes 5% who say they "always" do it. The RAC finds it "frightening" that over 20% (23%) of drivers follow other cars too closely.

The Highway Code tells us to drive in the left lane on motorways and major roads unless we're passing someone and that a two-second space between you and the car in front when driving fast should be kept. They want to stop people from staying in the middle lane too much and following cars too closely. They say bad driving can make others 'feel annoyed or scared'.
