One person has died and up to nine others are injured after a shooting took place during a Kansas City Chiefs parade at Union Station in Kansas City, according to local law enforcement officials.

Fire Department battalion chief Michael Hopkins said eight to 10 people were injured but declined further comment, saying only that additional information would be released soon.

Police said in a news release that two people were detained. Fans were urged to leave the area as quickly as possible. Several people near the parade route were carried away on stretchers shortly after Chiefs fans marked their third Super Bowl title in five seasons.Members of the public close to the area said they heard blaring sirens rushing toward the station and law enforcement officials were seen charging into the area with guns drawn.

Kevin Sanders, 53, of Lenexa, Kansas, said he heard what sounded like fireworks and then people running back. After that initial flurry, calm returned, and he did not think much of it. “We were sceptical,” he said.” But he said 10 minutes later, ambulances started arriving. “It sucks that someone had to ruin the celebration, but we are in a big city,” Mr Sanders said.
