Shameless flytippers dumped dozens of used tyres on an elderly couple's property - and the pensioners were told to clear the rubber rings themselves after council bosses refused to move them.Hugh and Diane Cunningham were returning from a friend's home one day last March when they discovered around 80 tyres abandoned on the driveway of their home in Upper Harbledown, near Canterbury, Kent.The fuming pair were left "angry and astonished" by the brazen behaviour of the mystery flytippers and appealed to Canterbury City Council for help getting rid of the mountain of rubber.But the authority refused to assist them in clearing the pile of tyres as it was on "private land".
The council did, however, launch an investigation into the incident, The Mirror reports.Hugh, 82, and his wife faced a huge bill to have the tyres removed.
He said: "At first I thought there were about 20, however we soon saw there were many more."I haven't counted them all exactly, but I think there could be about 80.
I was angry and astonished when I saw it. I was upset - I just thought 'how can someone do that?' "How degrading of the environment.
