Rochdale is at the centre of a political storm. Weeks before the town goes to the polls to choose its next MP, Labour's former by-election candidate Azhar Ali has apologised for 'deeply offensive' claims he made about Israel.

The Labour Party has now withdrawn its support for Mr Ali who claimed Israel allowed Hamas to carry out its deadly October 7 attack to provide grounds for invading Gaza.

But on the streets of Rochdale, the tide was already turning against the party in some quarters. Much like other areas in Greater Manchester, enthusiasm for either of the big political parties is hard to come by - and some say they won't bother voting at all.

Planning for the forthcoming General Election has been made "challenging" by new rules and uncertainty over the date, West Lothian councillors have heard. Offials said staff were grappling with challenges created by the new demand for voters to provide ID before they make their mark. Miley Cyrus and Pharrell have released a new collaborative single – listen to ‘Doctor (Work It Out)’ below.The funk-infused song marks Cyrus’ first release of 2024, and finds the singer lusting over a love interest.“I could be your doctor/ And I could be your nurse/ I think I see the problem/ It’s only gon’ get worse (Uh, uh)/ A midnight medication/ Just show me where it hurts (Uh)/ I need to rock you, baby/ Before your body bursts,” Cyrus sings.‘Doctor (Work It Out)’, which was produced by Pharrell, is said to have originally been written for Cyrus’ 2013 album ‘Bangerz’.
