Reduced school transport eligibility will affect 3000 North Lanarkshire youngsters, and is set to begin from August 2024 for secondary pupils and 12 months later for those at primary.Details of the council’s plans are outlined in the consultation on the authority’s agreed budget-saving measure to increase the qualifying distances to include only those living more than two miles from their zoned primary school and three for high schools – compared to their current policy of one and two miles respectively.Families and residents can now submit views online about the controversial policy – which is intended to save £3.6 million and is being reintroduced five years after public and political protest forced a U-turn on a previous attempt to implement it.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
