Nith District Salmon Fishery Board gets boost from Extreme E

An organisation aiming to boost salmon stocks has received a boost thanks to an international motorsport series. Nith District Salmon Fishery Board aims to protect the river’s fish populations, improve water quality and create sustainable fishing opportunities.

And they’ve been lent a hand in their efforts by Extreme E, which was recently in the region for the Hydro X Prix at Glenmuckloch near Kirkconnel.

As part of the series’ legacy programme, drivers and teams took part in green engineering activities - including electro fishing and using willow stakes to stabilise and protect the environment.

Fishing director at the board, Jim Henderson, said: “Salmon is a really big part of Scotland’s legacy and history. It’s really important for our wider environmental ecosystem that we do everything that we possibly can to make sure that they’re there for our future generations.
