NBA legend Jerry West has sadly died at the age of 86. The Los Angeles Clippers announced his passing, stating he was “the personification of basketball excellence and a friend to all who knew him.” They noted he passed “peacefully” this morning with his wife Karen by his side. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame three times throughout his lengthy career and was the third player in history to make it to 25,000 points.
He had the nickname “Mr. Clutch” for his ability to win games. In addition to playing, he found himself as an elite executive, winning eight NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers and putting together the famed “Showtime” group of players.
He was portrayed by Jason Clarke in the HBO series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. Our thoughts are with Jerry West‘s friends, loved ones, family, and fans. RIP.
