The woman, in her 30s, was named locally as Kimberlie Donoghue, after she was found dead in a property on Roughwood Drive in Kirkby at around 5.20pm on Sunday, January 21.
Merseyside Police said the woman's death is being treated as unexplained and her next of kin have been informed, reports the Liverpool Echo.
In an update on Monday (January 22), police said a 23-year-old man, from Kirkby, was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to a police station for questioning.
