A mum and her teenage daughter who were still flown out to Rhodes despite hotels across the island being evacuated were then forced to sleep on a floor with strangers in a conference room.

Carol Brown and daughter Holly had flown out the Greek island from Manchester Airport on Saturday evening (July 22) and claim they were given no information about the severity of the wildfires developing in the area before boarding and assumed it was safe to visit due to flights still departing.

However Loveholidays, who Carol booked the week-long trip with, did contact their customers to cancel holidays and offer refunds, but not until after Carol and daughter and already jetted off. Upon leaving the 'calm' baggage hall in the Rhodes airport, furious mum Carol claims they were ushered onto a coach and told their booked hotel had already been evacuated to the danger of the raging fires nearby.

After driving around for some time, and then told they may possibly have to sleep on a ship at the harbour, she claims customers were taken to a completely different hotel near Kallithea and shown a conference room with mattresses on the floor. "Nobody had any idea what was going on and we were not told enough for us to be able to make an informed decision as to whether we wanted to get on the flight to a place in such an emergency," Carol told the M.E.N. "We thought, if the flight was leaving, it must be safe.
