Multiple vehicles crash on A78 as emergency services rush to 'horrendous' scene

A horror smash involving multiple vehicles has shut down a major Ayrshire road as emergency services race to the scene. Mercy crews, including fire engines and ambulance teams, are currently on the A78 near Eglinton, Irvine on the southbound carriageway.Police confirmed the major crash happened around 9.40am.

Diversions have been put in place with traffic backed up all the way along to Irvine. Drivers have been warned to avoid the area.One eyewitness told Ayrshire Live: "It looks absolutely horrendous.

There were fire engines just arriving and ambulances parked."It looked like a large-scale response. I counted up to 10 cars involved.

One car is really badly damaged.
