MSP slams food poverty levels in Renfrewshire as families "failed"

New figures released by the Trussell Trust reveal that over 1,200 children in Renfrewshire were handed emergency food parcels between April and September.

The harrowing stats revealed that across the country, over 120,000 emergency food parcels were provided to people between April and September by food banks in the charity’s Scotland-wide network.This is the most parcels that the network has ever distributed at this point in the year and represents a nine per cent increase from the same period in 2022.

And the charity’s mid-year figures reveal that between April and September this year 4,357 parcels were distributed within Renfrewshire with 1,293 being allocated to children and 3,064 being given to adults.
