The ban on TikTok is continuing on, with Montana being the first state to take action against the app.

According to THR, as the US government debates banning the app nationwide, Montana is moving ahead with a state-wide ban. Head inside to read what the state is planning and when it will take effect… THR revealed that lawmakers in the state moved forward and passed a bill on Friday (April 14), which will require app stores to stop carrying TikTok.

The governor, Republian Greg Gianforte, is expected to sign it. “Under the bill, passed by a vote of 54-43, app stores will be prohibited from offering the app to Montana users,” the outlet adds, but says that those who already have the app and are already using it, can continue using it.

In addition, TikTok will not be allowed to operate in the state. This will go into effect in 2024. TikTok spokesperson Brooke Oberwetter called out the bill in a statement, saying that “the bill’s champions have admitted that they have no feasible plan for operationalizing this attempt to censor American voices.” Just last month, TikTok added an automatic safety on the app for its current users.
