Michelle Heaton has shared an emotional throwback snap of her first day in rehab two years ago. Showing how far she has come, the former Liberty X singer, who said she never hid her alcohol addiction from her children, looked glum in the flashback image as she stood outside Priory. The 43 year old captioned the image: "#tbt 2 years ago today I arrived on the steps of the @priorygroup.

Bewildered, confused, sad, sick and very frightened. That day I took my last drink. Therefore my sobriety date is tomorrow .. please god." Alongside prayer hand emojis, she continued to reflect: "It feels like a lifetime ago and in someways like it was yesterday.

I can still remember heading into there wanting to come out a controlled drinker. A normal drinker. I had no idea how bad i actually was, and that that day would be my last day of drinking. "As long as I continue to do my meetings, step program and work on myself I don't ever need to go back," Michelle concluded alongside the hashtags: "#sobriety #alcohol #alcoholic #recovery #addiction #help #throwbackthursday #aa #12steps." Michelle is still following the 12-Step Programme and attends AA meetings regularly. The star is a symbol of hope to others with similar problems, and previously said she hit rock bottom in January 2020 when she was drinking up to a bottle of vodka and two bottles of wine a day, as well as snorting cocaine.

It was a terrifying climax to becoming dependent on alcohol while suffering from hormonal depression after a hysterectomy. The operation to reduce her risk of breast and ovarian cancers, after learning she carries the mutated BRCA2 gene, also triggered her early menopause at the age of 34.
