Michael Mosley has explained how living like the people of Spain, Italy and Greece can help keep heart disease at bay.The health guru and author of Just One Thing is a known advocate of the Mediterranean diet for weight loss as it helped his waist line and keeps his heart in good shape.Writing for the Daily Mail, Michael says that following the eating plan inspired by countries like Spain and Greece for ten years has helped him keep the weight off while keeping his blood pressure low.

It focuses on foods like fish, olive oil, nuts, lean meat and plenty of fruit and vegetables.The World Health Organization (WHO) states that cardiovascular disease is the biggest killer of men and women globally and it can manifest silently without showing symptoms until it's too late.Michael stressed how important it is to keep his ticker in check following the premature death of his father from the condition, making him high risk.

However, it's not "as simple" as eating like a Mediterranean resident for heart health, but also living their more relaxed lifestyle.Speaking on the Mediterranean diet, he said: "While these foods are anti-inflammatory (and chronic inflammation helps drive heart disease), there is so much more to benefit from when looking at the Mediterranean lifestyle."In fact, it is the traditional Mediterranean lifestyle and not just the food that’s protective and beneficial.
